Tyson Johnston, General Manager, Australia, Pacific Life Re

Tyson Johnston is Pacific Life Re Australia’s General Manager. In this role, Tyson is responsible for
providing leadership and strategic direction to the Australian office. Tyson is a member of the
Divisional Senior Leadership Team and is an Executive Director for Pacific Life Re Australia. He
joined Pacific Life Re in March 2017 and over his tenure has held senior roles within the Client
Solutions Team, most recently as Head of Client Solutions, during which time he was
instrumental in designing and executing Australia’s business strategy. Prior to joining Pacific Life 
Re, Tyson worked at EY as an actuarial consultant working with life insurers across Australia. He is
a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia. 

Noel Lacey, Head of Insurance, Cbus

Noel has about 40 years of experience, including 10 years in human resources and 30 years in superannuation. He spent the first 20 years of his career with large corporations Southcorp, Uncle Toby’s and ACI, where he started in human resources roles and then moved into management of in-house corporate super funds before moving to major Industry Funds. 

Noel spent 16 years at AustralianSuper in executive roles covering operations, insurance and product. Noel has been at Cbus for almost 6 years, with the last 4 years as Head of Insurance. In that time insurance at Cbus has undergone significant transformation with particular focus on enhancing the member experience.

Nicholas Sherry, Former Senator and Minister for Superannuation

Senator for 22 years including the first Minister for Superannuation and Corporate Law, Assistant Treasurer and Small Business Minister 2007 to 2011. Chaired the Senate Committee on Superannuation oversighting the development of the 9% Super Guarantee and Superannuation Industry Supervision Acts. A former fund Chair, trustee and MD. Since retiring from politics in 2012, formerly a Senior Advisor Pension and Superannuation to Citi and EY working in some 23 countries on a range of projects and a Director of Spotless. Currently Senior Director FNZ APAC (formerly Chair), Chair of Household Capital, GO Sourcing and Singapore Forum. Consultant to a range of governments and funds in the UK, Ireland and Australia – mainly super system design and all aspects thereof and fund governance and mergers.


Penny Paré, Manager, Insurance, Sunsuper

Penny is the Manager of Insurance Product at Sunsuper where she has responsibility for the insurance products offered to Sunsuper members. This includes the design, operation and pricing of the insurance offer and co-ordination of the activities associated with the Voluntary Code of Practice. 

Penny has worked in the superannuation industry for over 25 years across all areas of super, but with a specialty and focus on all things insurance.
