Dana Fleming, Deputy Commissioner of Superannuation and Employer Obligations, ATO

Dana Fleming has over 25 years’ tax experience, specialising in superannuation and managed investments both in Australia and overseas with KPMG and PwC. Dana’s client portfolio during this period included major industry funds, and major retail and boutique managed funds.

Dana advised and worked with her clients to assess the tax implications of strategic planning, assisted with tax compliance matters and helped prepare her clients for the impact of changing legislation on systems and products, product development, mergers and unit pricing.

During her last 4 years at KPMG, Dana led KPMG Australia’s Asset & Wealth Management tax practice setting the strategy for the $25m+ sector.

Dana joined the ATO in June 2018 as an Assistant Commissioner within the Superannuation & Employer Obligations business line, leading the SMSF segment. In June 2020 Dana moved into the role of Assistant Commissioner Integrated Compliance. In January 2021, Dana commenced her current role as acting Deputy Commissioner of the Superannuation and Employer Obligations business line.


Danielle Press, Commissioner, ASIC

Danielle was appointed as a full-time Member of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission for a period of five years in September 2018. Danielle possesses broad corporate and specialist experience in superannuation, having been CEO of the Myer Family Company from 2016 to 2017 and CEO of Equipsuper from 2010 to 2016. Danielle has held various senior roles at UBS Global Asset Management including Deputy Head (Australia) from 2007 to 2010, Head of Institutional Business from 2005 to 2007 and Head of Strategic Planning (Alternative and Quantitative) from 2003 to 2005. Prior to this Danielle was an Economist at the Reserve Bank of Australia. Danielle holds a Bachelor of Economics with Honours from the University of Western Australia.


Helen Rowell, Deputy Chair, APRA

Mrs Rowell was appointed as Deputy Chair of APRA in November 2015, and reappointed for a further five-year term from 1 July 2018.

Mrs Rowell joined APRA in 2002 as General Manager, Industry Technical Services and held a number of senior roles, including General Manager, Diversified Institutions Division, General Manager, Policy Development and Executive General Manager, Supervisory Support Division prior to her appointment as APRA Member, with primary responsibility for superannuation, from 1 July 2013.

Mrs Rowell was the Chair of APRA’s (cross-divisional) general insurance industry group from 2006 to 2011, and has represented APRA at various subcommittees of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors, on the FSB’s Supervisory Intensity and Effectiveness Group and was previously co-Chair of the Joint Forum Financial Conglomerates Committee. Mrs Rowell is currently the APRA representative on the OECD Working Party on Private Pensions, and was appointed President of the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors in November 2019.

Prior to joining APRA, Mrs Rowell was a partner at the international consulting firm Towers Perrin; she is also a Fellow and past President of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.
