Sustainability and the pursuit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) have been a key focus for many investors. While many acknowledge the importance of pursuing investment strategies that achieve the UN SDGs, achieving success in this area can be a real challenge. This session examines the UN SDGs and provides useful insights into how international investors are seeking to drive change to make a more sustainable planet.

Georg Kell, Founding Director,UN Global Compact; Co-Chair, DWS ESG Advisory Board; Speaker, Volkswagen Sustainability Council (GER)

Georg Kell is a Founding Executive Director of the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest and most important initiative for sustainable business management. Kell retired after 25 years of service to the United Nations and is now the Co-Chair of the DWS ESG Advisory Board and Speaker of the Volkswagen Sustainability Council.


Claudia Kruse, Managing Director Global Responsible Investment & Governance, APG Asset Management (NLD)

As Managing Director Global Responsible Investment & Governance Claudia Kruse is part of the management team of the investment function reporting into the Chief Investment Officer on the Board of APG Asset Management. APG manages pension assets of ca 515 billion euro (April 2020) on behalf of Dutch pension funds. The twenty people strong global RI & Governance team based in Amsterdam, New York and Hongkong, safeguards the implementation of the clients’ responsible investment policies across all asset classes.

Before joining APG in 2009, she worked on the buy and sell-side in London for almost a decade. She is an experienced non-profit board member and serves on the Board of the International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN). Since 2016 she has been appointed to the German Corporate Governance Code Commission, and she was a member of the EU Expert Group on Sustainable Finance (2017) whose recommendations inspired the EU Action Plan on Sustainable Finance. In 2016 she was voted CIO Europe’s Next Generation CIO Award winner.

In July 2020, APG together with PGGM, AustralianSuper and British Columbia Investment Management launched the Asset Owner Platform, setting a global standard for investing into the Sustainable Development Goals. Claudia co-chairs the Principles for Responsible Investment’s Advisory Committee on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and APG is also a member of the UN initiative Global Investors for Sustainable Development (GISD) which seeks to advance investment into the SDGs.


Masja Zandbergen, Head of Sustainability Integration, Robeco (NLD)

Masja Zandbergen is head of sustainability integration at Robeco. She holds a Master’s in Econometrics from Erasmus University Rotterdam and is a CEFA charterholder. Her background is in equity portfolio management, in which capacity she has been responsible for a global financials fund and European portfolios. Masja started her career at Robeco in 1997, where in 2003 she joined the Sustainable Investing team and helped set up the Active Ownership (voting and engagement) approach. She then moved on to start her own company, focusing on advertising sustainable investment products, and later became head of equity at Syntrus Achmea. Masja rejoined Robeco in 2015 and in her current role as head of sustainability integration, she is responsible for coordinating ESG integration across asset classes. Masja is the company’s spokesperson on the topic of sustainability and works with clients to share knowledge and expertise on this field.

Elysse is host of The Business, Australia's leading business news television programme broadcast on ABC and ABC News and she co-hosts 7pm Finance on ABC News. Elysse serves on the board of Media Super and donates her time as a director of the Hornsby Kuringgai Women’s Shelter.
