APRA has released updated draft reporting standards as part of their data transformation project to assist funds in preparing for the implementation of the new reporting standards. APRA has advised that the draft standards are unlikely to change significantly before they are finalised.

Today APRA released the MySuper Product Heatmap – December 2020. APRA has advised that in the 12 months since the first heatmap was published 10 million MySuper members are paying less in total fees and costs and an estimated $408 million saving in total fees and costs has been achieved.

Today, ASIC and APRA have issued a joint letter to RSE licensees in relation to the member outcome obligations and the DDOs to assist RSE licensees better understand the way in which these obligations interact. The letter reminds RSE licensees that MO obligations and the DDOs are complementary.

Today ASIC has released Report 675, ‘Default insurance in superannuation: Member value for money’. The report examines insights obtained from ASIC’s work on metrics for measuring the value for money that members receive from default insurance. The report builds on ASIC’s broader worker on insurance in superannuation.

Today ASIC released regulatory guide 274 Product design and distribution obligations (RG 274). It provides guidance on the design and distribution obligations in Part 7.8A of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth). The obligations were originally scheduled to commence on 5 April 2021; however, this has been extended by six months to 5 October 2021.

In move welcomed by AIST, the Senate has agreed to a 12 month extension to Section 56 of the Financial Sector Reform (Hayne Royal Commission Response) Bill 2020 concerning the extension of indemnification prohibitions.

The Government’s Financial Sector Reform Bill to allow for the implementation of key recommendations of the Financial Services Royal Commission was introduced to the House of Representatives today. The Financial Sector Reform (Hayne Royal Commission Response No. 2) Bill 2020 contains three reforms, with most of the changes scheduled to come into effect on 1 July 2021.
