AIST supports the intent of the Privacy Act Review (the Review) to increase protections for personal information and to align Australian Privacy Principles (APP) with best practice international standards.
Proposed changes to the Your Future, Your Super (YFYS) Measures are a good first step to further improve outcomes for fund members but they do not go far enough in holding trustees to account for the full range of poorly performing products, according to the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST).

The Federal Government has today released its Summary of Issues paper arising from the Review of Your Future, Your Super (YFYS) Measures, along with exposure draft regulations to amend the annual superannuation performance test.

A consultation paper has been released on better targeting superannuation tax concessions. This follows the government's announcement on 28 February 2023 that it would reduce the superannuation tax concessions available to individuals whose total superannuation balances exceed $3 million from 1 July 2025.
AIST strongly supports both enshrining an objective of superannuation into legislation, and the wording of the objective proposed in this consultation. The proposed wording is clear, concise and covers many fundamental principles against which future changes can be assessed and measured while reinforcing much of the common understanding of the purpose of super.
