Investments in Super - Part 1

This course examines how super funds invest members’ money. Using plain English and demystifying the jargon, it explains what super funds invest in, the options they offer to members and the parties involved in the investment process.


Who should register?

Anyone wishing to meet their ongoing CPD obligations with a positive educational experience, or gain a new or clearer understanding of the investment options offered to their members; whether you are an industry newcomer, current fund employee, trustee director, service provider or regulator.

 

Accreditation

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive 3.5 CPD points and an AIST Statement of Completion.

 

Learning outcomes

Gain a better understanding of:

  • the importance of investment
  • the characteristics of the common asset classes
  • the types of investment options offered by super funds
  • the parties involved in the investment process

 

Topics will include

  • The size and significance of investment by super funds, both within Australia and overseas
  • The key characteristics of the major asset classes, what they are and how they are combined in investment options
  • The range of investment options typically offered to members; diversified, single sector and “self managed” and the concepts of risk and return
  • The roles and responsibilities of parties involved in the investment process; trustees, custodians, in-house and external fund managers and asset consultants.

 

Course duration

Three and a half hours including short breaks.
