PAY SUPERANNUATION ON PAID PARENTAL LEAVE

Parental leave is the only common type of paid leave that doesn’t have super paid on it.

This means thousands of Australians miss out on super!

Most of those missing out are women as they take more parental leave to care for children.

When you take annual leave, sick leave and long service leave, you're paid super.  But you don’t get super on your paid parental leave whether the government or your employer pays for your leave. It doesn’t make sense and it’s just not fair.

Women retire with nearly 35% less super than men. With rising rates of poverty and homelessness among older women this isn’t good enough.

Women have, on average, four career breaks during their working lives, with the top reasons being maternity leave and childcare. As a result, women’s retirement savings stall at various points throughout their working, leaving many women financially insecure in retirement.
