Emma Thornton

Trustee Elected Director

Joined 2021

Emma has been an active participant in industry superannuation since 2018, with her commitment to industry super borne from a long term dedication to achieving dignity for all working people. Emma has always believed that work is how people contribute to the world and their work should be safe, meaningful and bring them dignity.

That dignity must continue into retirement, and Emma views industry super as an integral part of a just and socially fair society which allows its participants financial security in retirement.

With 20 years' experience as an industrial, employment and personal injuries lawyer Emma is currently a Practice Leader (partner) in Adelaide plaintiff law firm Johnston Withers and  previously worked for SA Unions and interstate at the ACTU and Maurice Blackburn Lawyers.

Emma brings to the AIST Board long-term experience on various boards and management committees, a strong background in industrial relations and skills in strategic planning. She is an active and engaged Board Director, keen to participate in AIST policy and strategy development that will strengthen industry superannuation. Emma considers representation of the sector from smaller states on the AIST Board key to building a stronger industry superannuation system.
