Global Dialogue is AIST's premier international event which examines the retirement systems of other countries and developing strategies to manage growth in ageing populations.

2012 marks the fourth Dialogue which will examine issues particular to Europe. Participants will learn about European markets, governance best practice, the European carbon trading experience, and will be given an insight into the new UK pension system, while examining case studies on European fund collaboration and understanding member activism.

Occurring once every two years, Global Dialogue is a key event for trustee directors and senior fund staff looking to add value to their fund through international insights.

As the European debt crisis continues to unfold, more and more bailout packages are being announced and countries are struggling to come to grips with austerity measures. It remains to be seen whether the Eurozone will cope with this massive challenge - the first major crisis to occur since the monetary union was created. It also remains to be seen how this will affect the rest of the world including Australia, as we experienced through the Global Financial Crisis, we are not immune to market failures in other regions.

Meanwhile, European pension funds continue to take leading roles in governance, responsible and alternative investing, and climate change.

The Global Dialogue will provide you with a timely program focusing on the key challenges facing Europe, as well as examine best practice in a number of areas.

AIST is committed to the ongoing education of trustee directors and executive staff of Australian superannuation funds, and to assisting them in meeting their fiduciary responsibilities as long-term investors on behalf of the working population.

Please note that this project is limited in size, so that everyone who attends can play an active part in the Dialogue.
