Nathan Hodge

Partner | King & Wood Mallesons

Nathan Hodge is a partner at King & Wood Mallesons specialising in financial services, life insurance and superannuation. With over 15 years’ experience, Nathan has advised industry funds, wealth management institutions, retail and corporate funds, public sector schemes, investment managers and administrators across all areas of financial services law. Nathan was shortlisted as Lawyer’s Weekly 2017 Partner of the Year for Financial Services.


Karen Volpato

Senior Policy Advisor | AIST

Karen is Senior Policy Advisor to the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees. In this capacity, Karen manages AIST’s strategic research framework and projects, which has included developing the concept for the AIST-Mercer Super Tracker, which sets key performance indicators for the Australian superannuation system.

Karen’s previous roles included head of marketing and product at First State Super, where Karen was responsible for marketing, policy, corporate affairs and product. In this role, Karen oversaw the marketing rollout of First State Super becoming a public offer fund as well as the merger with Health Super.

Karen has extensive experience in the banking and superannuation industry, and has a legal background. 

Karen has in the past been voted as Selecting Super’s Superannuation Marketer of the Year.  Karen was also a finalist for Money Management’s 2015 Woman of the Year.

Eva Scheerlinck

Chief Executive Officer | AIST

Eva Scheerlinck is CEO of the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST) – the peak body of the $700 billion profit-to-member superannuation industry.

Having joined the profit-to-member super industry in 2010 as AIST’s Executive Manager of Governance and Stewardship, Eva has been actively involved in reforming governance standards for superannuation funds in Australia. She has also been pivotal in driving industry-wide initiatives to improve outcomes for Indigenous Australians, having been the inaugural chair of the Indigenous Superannuation Working Group.

In addition to her past roles at AIST, Eva has previous experience heading up professional associations, including six years as CEO of the Australian Lawyers Alliance, a role that saw her named by BOSS Magazine as one of seven top young executives of the year.

Eva holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts from the Queensland University of Technology, as well as a Graduate Diploma of Community Management from the University of Technology, Sydney. She was admitted as a solicitor in 2000.

Eva is also Chair of the Integrated Reporting International Pension Fund Network and serves on a number of not-for-profit boards.


David Haynes

Senior Policy Manager | AIST

As AIST’s Senior Policy Manager, David has spent the last six years working closely with Parliament, Government, Treasury, regulators and other key stakeholders in developing and implementing all aspects of superannuation policy including major projects such as the Financial System Inquiry, the Tax Inquiry, MySuper, SuperStream, default fund selection and Comprehensive Income Products for Retirement (CIPRs).

David has more than 20 years’ experience in the industry including time as the CEO of Industry Fund Services and AUSfund, as an executive at Members Equity, as an account manager for Australian Administration Services (AAS), and as a trustee of a number of superannuation funds.

David holds a parallel role as Executive Superannuation Policy Advisor at IQ Group and is also a director of the SuperStream Gateway Network Governance Body and Chairs the Audit and Risk Committee of the Council of the Aging (COTA) Victoria.
